We are living in weird and crazy times… Self-isolation can be very difficult (especially when the sun is finally out, how ironic!). If you are struggling with boredom, loneliness and have no idea how to fill your time, we have some tips and recommendations for you:
1.COOKING & BAKING
Now is the time when you can spend hours in the kitchen, without feeling guilty or pressured by time. You can finally cook or bake the food you saw on Pinterest, Instagram or YouTube. If you don't have any recipes saved, we shared some on our Instagram (such as wraps, french toasts, apple muffins and many others) and created a playlist of recipes that are easily made with what you (probably) already have in your pantry.
2. SUPPORT YOUR LOCALS
If you are not a fan of cooking (but not only then) consider supporting the vegan business. I assume that, just like me, you wouldn't want your favorite vegan restaurant to close down after this pandemic is over. Especially in these times, it is so important to support your locals and order food to your home.
Vegan restaurants that still do deliveries:
Vegan restaurants that do not do deliveries anymore, but are definitely worth supporting when the quarantine time is over are Mastino V, Willem Pie, Meatless District, Hearth, Mr. Plaenty, Deer Mama and SLA (SLA is very vegan-friendly).
3. BINGING-WATCHING YOUTUBE TALKS
There are plenty of talks by vegan activists, speakers and organizations that are full of useful information. I would definitely recommend these three:
Nope, these videos are not meant for non-vegans, but for vegans to learn how to be more effective and efficient in our activism, how to communicate with others about our message and what are the best strategies we can use to create a vegan world.
4. WATCHING UNNATURAL VEGAN
Not exactly a youtube talk, but a Youtuber who talks a lot (and about very important issues!). Unnatural Vegan is a vegan Youtuber who is a normal vegan that uses scientific evidence to support the claims she makes. Refreshing, isn't it? She is one of the few on Youtube who has the guts to criticize the vegan movement (and other vegan YouTubers) when it is necessary, she makes videos about crazy vegan diets and explaining why they are crazy and other very important (and sometimes controversial) videos. Looking at things from a different angle is a nice challenge. If you haven't heard about her, definitely check her channel out!
5. READ, READ, READ
Do you also postpone reading books because of your studies and the enormous amount of articles you need to read? Do you also wait till the summer or Christmas holidays to finally open the books you bought a half a year ago? Maybe now, during self-isolation, you can find more time for books. 6. MOVIE MARATHON
I guess many of you have already seen movies like Dominion, Cowspiracy, Earthlings, Game Changers (and if not, you can easily find them on Netflix or somewhere else online). But if you are in the mood for a nice movie where you will laugh (and not cry because of seeing animals suffering) then I recommend the movie Carnage. It is a mockumentary that is based in 2067 when the UK is vegan and it explores our meat-eating habits through ages. If you like British humor, you will love this movie!
Other movies you could enjoy are Okja or Vegan: Everyday Stories.
7. YOGA FOR SELF-CARE
It doesn't matter if you are a beginner or not, Yoga with Adriene will make you want to do yoga every day. On her Youtube channel, there are many 30-days yoga challenges that are worth checking out! Don't worry, it is just around 20 minutes a day so it can be part of your morning or evening routine.
There you go, 7 tips on what to do when self-isolating at home. Of course, there are many more things you could do - Face Timing with your friends and family, do some workouts at home, write, paint, create… anything! I just listed some vegan-related activities that you could enjoy during this time.
